Steel Pan Summer Camp 2018

Directed by Dr. Patrick K. Carney, Director of Bands 

Purpose 

To provide a fun and nurturing steel pan ensemble experience for participants that enjoy a relaxed atmosphere along with stimulating activities designed to improve understanding of steel pan experience. 

Eligibility 

To be a participant in Steel Pan Summer Camp, one does NOT need prior musical training, knowledge, or experience. This camp is geared toward those who want to experience performing with others, learning new principles, and enjoy island rhythms and popular music.  

Requirements 

Commitment. The only requirement is adhering to the schedule as best as you can. I know life happens, so choose your dates & times carefully. There are only so many pans available! 

Rehearsals 

Rehearsals will be at the Downtown Campus (Band Hall) located at 101 Granard Street. (Map can be found here – scroll down!)  
PLEASE NOTE: It is a magnetic lock, so be ON-TIME 
 

Sessions* 

We will offer SIX different session combinations. Each week we will learn and review basic skills, as well as learn a “set” of music. Each “set” will be different from the other so those committing to our two-week session will be able to perform more music OR learn a different pan!  

  1. $90.00 - Two Consecutive Weeks 10:30 am – Noon (MORNING) 

  • June 4 - 8 (5 Days – Monday thru Friday) 

  • June 11 - 15 (5 Days – Monday thru Friday) 

  1. $90.00 - Two Consecutive Weeks 5:30 pm – 7:00 pm (EVENING) 

  • June 4 - 8 (5 Days – Monday thru Friday) 

  • June 11 - 15 ((5 Days – Monday thru Friday) 

  1. $60.00 - ONE Week 10:30 am – Noon (MORNING) 

  • June 4 - 8 (5 Days – Monday thru Friday) 

  1. $60.00 - ONE Week 5:30 pm – 7:00 pm (EVENING) 

  • June 4 - 8 (5 Days – Monday thru Friday) 

  1. $60.00 - ONE Week 10:30 am – Noon (MORNING) 

  • June 11 - 15 (5 Days – Monday thru Friday) 

  1. $60.00 - ONE Week 5:30 pm – 7:00 pm (EVENING)

*A minimum of 10 persons must be enrolled for a session to be active. This can be a combination of two-week and one-week participants, but remember only 15 total pans are available! I will communicate when a session is “active”, and when they are “full”. 

Tuition 

The tuition for participation is: 

  • $90.00 for two weeks (10 sessions @ 90 minutes each) 

  • $60.00 for one week (5 sessions@ 90 minutes each) 

This fee will cover staff and clinician expenses, printing, mallet usage, music, pan usage and other related costs.
