Emergent: A Lily Pad Installation by Christina Laurel Now on Display
Emergent: A Lily Pad Installation by Christina Laurel is on display at the Granberry Gallery.
"The lily pad is a living entity whose roots are submerged in the earth, but whose growth propels it through water to emerge into the air above. It is a motif ripe with symbolism.
The dimensional lily pads are crafted with two different weights of Japanese shoji paper, sewn at the seams. They float above the cradled-wood panels - “water” - on whose surface are applied digital prints of an original collage, as well as lily-pad silhouette washi.
'Emergent' transforms the space into an oasis of respite from our daily sensory bombardment. Both the horizontal format and the properties of a lily pond are inherently calming." --Christina Laurel
The show runs from August 15-October 20.
An artist talk will be held September 28 in Granberry 106 from 6pm -7pm followed by a reception in the Granberry gallery until 8pm.
