Ms. Hicks holds MMus and BMus Degrees, and an ARCT in piano performance. She is a Nationally Certified Teacher of Music (NCTM) with MTNA. As a solo and collaborative pianist and accompanist, she has performed extensively. An experienced adjudicator, she is also a member of the Board of Judges for the National Guild of Piano Teachers.
Her college teaching experience encompasses courses and subjects such as composing and arranging, aural skills, theory, music appreciation, pedagogy, piano skills and seminar, as well as individualized piano instruction. She currently is an instructor for the second-year piano skills course in the Petrie School of Music.
Ms. Hicks holds memberships in MTNA, NFMC, American College of Musicians (National Guild of Piano Teachers), and Suzuki Association of the Americas. She has completed additional training in the Suzuki method for piano and violin and in nationally-recognized early childhood music programs. Her orchestral experience has contributed to her work as a composer and arranger.
Ms. Hicks is committed to guiding student development with a comprehensive background of repertoire and technique, along with integrated applied theory, to equip them to embrace future opportunities, and enable and foster musical expression of individuality.
Her students' accomplishments include acceptance to the South Carolina Governor's School, scholarships, Piano Guild recognitions, and Best Performer distinctions. They have gone on to pursue musical experience with post-secondary study and active contribution to their communities with various musical endeavors.
Having been a church musician for many years, Ms. Hicks currently serves as Director of Music for a local church.
